Ok. If you have a non-English version of Windows Vista and you get the “Code
1” or “Code 2” error when trying to install a language pack via Windows
Update, fallow my advice. Many people solved the problem just restarting the
OS or doing the language pack installation in safe mode. Others had installed
Windows Vista in drive D and they reinstalled it to drive C and solved the
problem. But some of us went crazy trying to fix the problem and nothing
seemed to work. This is how I fix it.
I got rid of that copy of Windows Vista and install one that is natively
“English”. I used the same serial number that came with my Spanish copy of
the OS and activation was not a problem, all OK. After that I updated the
system and after all updates were installed, (yes, DreamScene too) I rebooted
the system and downloaded via Windows Update the Spanish language pack that I
needed. Installation didn´t fail or anything.
I give this advice because many people like me got a new computer with
Windows Vista pre-installed. And by “pre-installed” I mean that the company
that sold that PC maybe used a personalized installation and the OS just
wasn’t the same after installation. Maybe that´s the reason why the language
pack was impossible to install.
So, three simple steps:
Get an English copy of Vista
Use your own cd key
Install the language pack of your preference
GET Ultimate Extras and updates soon as they become available (English
versions gets updates and extras sooner than other languages). Obviously only
Ultimate Edition can get Ultimate extras, if you don´t have Ultimate, just
don´t try.
