Does anyone know what this error message means and how to fix it? I am
unable to use Windows Update at all. Thanks.

Are you using Skype? Disable the plugin and try again
Are you using PC Tools Spyware Doctor? Disable it and retry update

PC Tools Spyware Doctor was the one that was making it fail for me,
just shut it down and wait for it to finish unloading the try the
updates again.

I don't use Skype or PC Tools Spyware Doctor. Any other ideas?

What if I don't have Skype, nor PC Tools Spyware Doctor?
I'm currently setting up my parents new fujitsu siemens computer with
preinstalled vista business on it and I can't use windows update with
the very same error

i have the same problem. i am running windows ultimate and cannot use windows
update at all. all i get is the error code 80070714. i am not running skyp or
spyware doctor.

I have the same code and can't get an answer either. I don't run skype or PC
tools spyware doctor. I'm at a loss. I've gone to my mfg. and even with heaps
of add on waranty stuff it does not help with windows softwear and for a huge
fee they say they'll fix it. Same as Microsoft for a fee they'll fix it.
I've only had this machine for a few months now and I'm angry about this
error and not being able to find it anywhere. HELP!!!

I got the same response from both mfg. (heaps of additional warranty) buth
they say for x dollars as does microsoft. And I've also notic ed you don't
find in the error codes posted for fixes. Oh well, I'll just keep closing the
button and someday it may just go away. My system does show it's being
updated properly so I don't know???

So why do you think there's a problem? Where are seeing the code?
There may be lots of codes in the logs if that's what you looking at.

BTW I'm willing to help but if you just want to continue ranting don't bother
replying. I'm not interested in acting as someone's sounding board.
