All,

Finished moving from SUS to WSUS last week. I now have 2 servers that won't
communicate with Windows Update or WSUS server. Both servers are Win2k SP4
w/latest updates...At least until last week ;-) Problem seems to be with COM+
Event System. It will not start, which prevents System Event Notification
from starting, in turn not allowing BITS to start. Error message from the
System Log as follows....

Event Type: Error
Event Source: Service Control Manager
Event Category: None
Event ID: 7000
Date: 6/28/2005
Time: 1:27:06 PM
User: N/A
Computer: PCM
Description:
The COM+ Event System service failed to start due to the following
error:
The executable program that this service is configured to run in does
not implement the service.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Error message from the Application log...
Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventSystem
Event Category: Event System
Event ID: 4097
Date: 6/28/2005
Time: 1:18:38 PM
User: N/A
Computer: PCM
Description:
The COM+ Event System detected a bad return code during its internal
processing. HRESULT was 8007043B from line 42 of .\eventsystemobj.cpp.
Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

Been through the Knowledge Base, Newsgroups, Google, etc...for 4 days now
trying resolve this issue. DLLs re-registered, COM+ reinstalled, SFC run,
re-installed Service Packs and Hotfixes

Anybody got a clue what to try next or seen this before?

TIA,

Jim

How were you searching? It seems the code may have more to do with
two either missing or misconfigured services than what you were trying.

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...1fe837bde43b32

(Google Groups search for
(8007043B OR 0x8007043B) (MSFT OR MVP) group:microsoft.*
- sorted by date to try to capture current thinking
- third hit
)

BTW both SUS and WSUS have its own newsgroup.
You may find more knowledgeable assistance in them.
I can't tell if the web interface that you are using has a link
to the newer WSUS one or not. Here's the NNTP link:

news:microsoft.public.windows.server.update_servic es

or, if you don't have a new server already defined and
your default newsreader is Outlook Express, try this instead:

news://msnews.microsoft.com/microsof...pdate_services

Note: you should do some personalizing before posting
with a new news account

Hmm... Apparently there is a web interface for it after all
(under Servers - Windows Management)
http://www.microsoft.com/communities...pdate_services
