I am truely amazed that so many people are having exactly the same probelm
with Windows Update V5 and MS hasn't figured out yet that it has a seious bug!

Read all the posts that say things like "....downloads updates, but then
they don't install... no error code or anything!"

There are THOUSANDS of use in this situation!!

I've investigated my computer, and I'm convinced that WU V5 is at the root
of the problem.

I've posted in here at least twice on this issue and no MVP has ever
responded. I think MS knows they have a BIG problem and haven't told MVP's
because nobody knows how to fix it, or hasn't applied enough experts to
troubleshoot/debug V5.

This has gone beyond ridiculous, to the point of incompetence!

Well, the first URL had the fix.

For some reason Active X wasn't in synch with WU V5...... still a bug in my
opinion.

Once the two files mentioned in the 319585 article were deleted and
subsequently replaced by Windows Update, everthing seemed to synchronize
again.

I'm careful about updates, and look after this computer relentlessly....(I'm
a support tech and this is my main computer at home).

For those with the same issue (windows update V5 downloads updates but won't
install them), this fix might be the solution

I'm in the help desk field also. I don't have time to wait for the MS to fix
the website. So I go to the IT Pro site and downloaded the executable and
manually installed it on the computer(s). That's a quick fix for the IT Tech.

The way things are going on with MS right now, who know when it will be fix.

If we pester them enough, think we can get them to release a simple
and easy program that can be "pointed" at a folder full of patches
for 2K or XP on the machine being updated, then install them all
in one go?

Not everyone has a LAN and a spare PC to setup an SUS server,
that can't even deliver all the updates available from the WU
site.

I only have dialup internet, so the last time I did a clean
install of 2K SP4 (slipstreamed) I saved all the 33 current
critical updates and the few "optional" updates that really
aren't unless you want to risk someone hacking through Media
Player or surfing with outdated Root Certificates.

I just copied the WUTemp folder before rebooting. Now that I
have them all, I want to be able to EASILY install them all
because my personal PC is overdue for a clean install and I
really do not want to sit around for four or five hours downloading
what I already have sitting on my hard drive.

Do you hear me, Microsoft? MOST INTERNET USERS ARE STILL ON
DIALUP IN THE USA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
