Communicating internally using Messenger

My company uses Messenger V5.1 to communicate internally, faster then sending
emails at times. I upgraded to Vista yesterday and I cannot figure out how
to use Messenger Live to communicate with my internal contacts. We have
communication blocked to the outside, so the only contacts that you can add
are those on our exchange server. I am not sure what to do to allow me to
view my internal contacts and to be able to IM them.

I think you company isn't using Messenger, it's using Net meeting.

Hi,

No, he is using Windows Messenger 5.1 with a SIP-based communications server or Exchange 2000
IM.

Greetings Renny,

You cannot, Windows Live Messenger supports public .NET Messenger contacts exclusively, there
is no support for Exchange -- Live Messenger is a different product.

Windows Messenger 5.1 will somewhat work on Vista (you have to maximize the conversation
windows and close them before a scroll bar appears, in which case it crashes). As far as I
know, there's no upgrade path planned.

I've yet to actually try running Windows Messenger 4.6 on Vista which will connect to
Exchange 2000 IM... I'm not holding my breath though.

I don't know if it's still in Vista, but can't he try using the Media Center
Messenger since it's based on Windows Messenger?

Hi,

That feature was cut in Vista as it used Windows Messenger, which is no longer there.

Hi,

I'd highly expect it to make a return in some future release of Windows, someday.
