I have an HP dv6000. I was using the computer today and it was fine and
I did not download anything today. When I went to turn it on tonight it
goes to the HP screen where in the bottom right hand corner I can press
esc for boot order settings for F10 for setup. Than it shuts off and
does the same thing again. I try to press F8 but it's like it wont allow
it, I can press F10 to get into setup but when I press F8 there is a
loud beep. It seems like there is a light ticking coming from the bottom
part of the lap top, about every 5 seconds i hear a light tick. I tried
to reset to the default settings. take the battery out, and all of
that.
Any suggestions?????

Who you talking to? Normal posters copy a snippit or the complete post in
which they are replying to so others can follow easily. I know this is
beyond your abilities so I suggest printing out this post and take it to
someone who can explain it to you. Allow 3 to 5 hours for the concept to
sink in to your head.

Just FYI.

He isn't there and it's a good thing. He doesn't want the radio waves from
your tin foil hat to interfere with his computer.

I suggest turning up the brightness and contrast. If you can, turn your
computer towards his house and raise the antenna.

Any open jobs still in your Global Empire? By the way, do you offer health
insurance? Would it be an HMO or a PPO? Please advise.

Hope your warranty is up to date. Any ticking sound usually means hardware
failure. A Vista disk won't help you if that's the case. See if you can
boot to HP's recovery partition, which is F11 or F12.

You should include a snippit or the complete post you are replying to. I
know that is beyond your capabilities, so you should seek help in getting
someone to explain the concept to you. Remember, you claim to be an EE so
you must have at least a 4th grade education.

Your hard drive seems to have died. The BIOS (what you call the HP
screen) can't read the drive; that clicking noise has in the past been
called the click of death (of the hard drive).

Your best bet is to try to read the drive in a second computer so you
can save anything of importance you put on it, and then start over with
a new computer... Or a least a new drive.

If you made the restore DVDs when you first got the computer, you can
recreate your OS on a new drive. If the recovery partition is still
available (perhaps F11 on startup of the BIOS) you can possibly
recreate the system on th old drive, but you would lose everything, so
you'd still need to offload everything of importance from the C:
partition before doing anything.
