manually is done by setting the counter to "1" and exiting WM.
when the compacting is done, go back and set the counter to what ever period you like.
I use 5.
so every 5 times I exit WM it compacts.

So one can no longer do it manually anymore? I never let XP do this at
random times because it would tie up the machine. Instead I'd manually run
it when I was done with the machine for awhile.
