ok, i tried to research this a little but didn't find much ....and i
have a feeling the answer is no, but i'll ask here ....

i have an older tabloid size flatbed scanner that apparently microtek
has no intention of making vista drivers for.....
is it possible to install it and run it using compatibility mode?
it seems like the compatibility is more for programs not the device
drivers themselves but i'm not sure....

Time to invest in a new scanner. Drivers must be specifically
designed for the operating system in order to work properly.

well, i compatibility mode has worked for me when running/installing ol
games on vista.
also, i've installed drivers for an airgo wireless card i
compatibility mode, since the release for vista wasnt working.
few things you can try:
- first: create a restore point, just in case something goes wrong, yo
can just load the previous settings
- second: connect the scanner, see if it shows as detected in th
device manager and use windows update to find the driver.
- third: you can run the setup in compatibility mode as you said, it'
worth a try :

Try installing VueScan. Chances are that it will work with VueScan, which
uses its own drivers and connects to the scanner directly. Some people
seemed to have found that the scanner also works through Windows once
VueScan has been installed, but I do not understand how that could happen.

No, you cannot use compatibility mode to force drivers to work if they won't
work under Vista. You either need Vista drivers, or a device that provides
Vista drivers.
