Ever since updating to IE8 I have been confounded by the Compatibility View
"feature". The most atrocious example was just this morning when my blogging
was interrupted to refresh the page into compatibility view not once, but
twice, several minutes apart; a page which had several photos and took
forever to load on dialup. I should also mention that the website this most
often occurs on is a modern, popular, state-of-the-art enterprise and after
the supposed "change" via CV the page is exactly as it was prior to the
refresh. Is there a way to disable CV and if so how?

Hello waykey,

Read *carefully* - do not just skim the page and start following steps.

There is important information there dependent on the version of Windows
Internet Explorer 8.

[Tools]>"Compatibility View Settings". Un-check all the boxes at the bottom.
The Compatibility View will then only apply to sites you specifically enter (of
which, of course, any or all can be removed, too).

This answers your question as to disabling Compatibility View. It may resolve
the reloading problem on your blogging site but break 100's of other sites :-(

Always state your full Windows version (e.g., WinXP SP3; Vista 64-bit SP2;
Win7 RC; Win7) when posting in a forum or newsgroup. Please do so in your
next reply.

Your post has nothing to do with Windows Update functionality.

Those with IE7- and/or IE8-specific questions or comments can post to and
seek support in IE General newsgroup:
