Re-Format Your Computer And Install Either Open Source Linux Ubuntu 7.10 RTW,
And/ Or Open Source Linux Ubuntu 8.04 Long Term Support Alpha 6, Just FYI.

If it is a new computer it is probably doing the initial indexing. You
could turn off indexing to see. Add the I/O columns to task manager or use
Reliability and Performance monitor to see which svchost is doing you disk
activity.

Kevin:

By now you know that this type of response is trolling in this group.
However, if you are going to recommend it as a solution, please have courtesy
and respect for the people who ask for assistance that may not know as much
as you do. You should also give them instructions on how to save their data
(or at least warn them) before removing Windows and installing another OS. If
you only tell them to reformat they might just do that and lose data. It
doesn't matter to me what solutions are suggested, but what you gave was bad
(incomplete) advice. Worst case, the user will blame Ubuntu for losing their
data and you will have lost a convert to Linux.

Hey John, I did infact recently re-install windows (about 2 days ago).
When I look up svchost process... it indicates one of the services it
includes ( about 5 total) is DWM (desktop windows manager).. However if
it is mainly DWM using the memory, it This shouldnt be at 60 k for DWM
because I am running vista basic with a simply downloaded skin. The
other services dont seem too important.. one is ready boost- which
should reduce mem usage shouldnt it?- and the other notable one is
'superfetch' not sure if those are contributing to the mem usage.

thanks

Sorry, I assumed when you said heard, that you were talking about disk
sounds associated with I/O and is common when the system is first used as
the indexing is very heavy initially. Don't know how you hear memory usage.
That is realistic for DWM, mine uses 150 k for Ultimate DreamScenes. Ready
boost reduces disk I/O for paging, but not physical memory usage. Vista
realistically works best with 2 gig of memory unless doing a lot of
multi-tasking, or other heavy memory applications.

haha, ok I mean I can hear my computer working.. the dim drone from the
hard drive, but I suspected it was from scvhost.exe because it awas
using come CPU resource and of course all the memory.

But the noise has settled down and the computer seems more upbeat now..
it suspect it was as u suggested, the initial indexing
