Seing as the error log says the problem was caused by the Video Card,
then perhaps you should try updating your drivers.
Click here to get them from HP:

And yes, it is possible that a material defect could be causing the CPU
(or any other component) to fail prematurely. I've had cases where I've
built a computer for a customer and everything seemed fine. It was only
after the machine left the workshop and was put into use "in the wild"
that the problems started showing up. Sometimes I was lucky that the
problems show up after a few days and that it could be resolved quickly
before any major data loss could occur. In some case, it can take months
for this to happen, and those are much harder to fix, as the problems
could be either material defects or damage caused by the environment or
even the users themselves.
But try the link I gave you above to download and install a new Video
Driver. If the link doesn't work, just go to 'HP United States -
Computers, Laptops, Servers, Printers & more' (
http://www.hp.com), click
"Drivers and Downloads", and do a search for "dv9429us". Then select
Windows Vista as your OS. That will also take you to the downloads page.
