Computer Freezes after coming out of sleep

My computer (HP m9000t) freezes up after coming out of sleep mode. I
have tried turning off sleep / hybrid sleep / hibernate, but the
computer still goes into "sleep" of some kind. When it comes out of
sleep, I can hear a whirling sound, which could be the harddrive
starting up, but moments later it sounds like it spins down and stops,
and then the whole computer freezes up, and I have to turn it off and
then turn it back on in order to make it work again. I've tried to make
it (using power options) so that the harddrive does not power down, but
that doesn't appear to do anything either, because the drive still turns
off when the computer sleeps. Before this problem developed, I was
having problems with the Media Center remote not working after sleep,
and was also having problems with the usb ports, and the sound turning
off. Something else was turning off too, because I could hear the
Windows "clunk" sound that indicates that something is not working, but
I haven't figured out what item was involved in that issue. On top of
all of this Media Center has stopped working, and to make it work I have
to delete a db file to get it opperating again. My other Vista computer
(HP m8067c) works like a gem, but this new one (HP m9000t) is nothing by
a constant hassle now. It was great for the first month, but now
nothing works right.

Of course all of the small issues of two weeks ago (remote not working,
etc.) are irrelevant now that the whole system freezes up. I contacted
HP and they said that I should do a system recovery, but that has not
worked either. As it stands now, I simply turn the computer off
whenever I leave it, because otherwise I have to do a reboot (turn the
computer off and on) whenever it comes out of sleep mode.

I dread sleep mode.

Here's along shot for you. Check into KB 943899, which may be why they
released the important update which may or may not help by installing from
Windows Update. Or if you are unlucky like me, the update caused the problem,
which is repaired by removing 943899 from the updates on your system.

Would like to know if this helped you and the results.

My last reply was only partly right for my problem, the MB required a Bios
change to an earlier version to correct wake up from sleep which is now
wonderful. Did you apply any HP updates to your notebook, or check into a
bios change needed at their site? Give them a call, wont hurt and may save
you a lot of grief.

I uninstalled the KB943899 update, and the computer appears to be
working better, but still a bit choppy.

I had to change how my updates install, because Windows Update kept
re-installing it after I uninstalled it.

I have two Vista computers an HP m9000t and an HP m8067c, which run two
different versions of bios, the newer computer (with sleep problems)
runs bios version 5.13, while the older computer (without any sleep
problems) runs bios version 5.08.

Apotheoun,

Here is the final word on the situation that I encountered. While at first
glance the update that I referenced may be causing the situation, the issued
continued in various manners. The final fix was as follows:
1. Called Intel and talked to Tech support, was told that the latest
release for the Bios update was indeed causing issues. I was informed that I
needed to roll back to the release from Nov 07 and avoiding the two latest.
2. After reverting back to the earlier version, system would go to sleep but
when coming out would Blue Screen. Applied MS KB update to resolve just as
was stated in KB article.
3. Reinstalled most stable sound, video, etc drivers.
4. Deliver system to client.
5. Shake head in disbelief at the nightmare, and crack open a cold one.

I would recommend that you develope a good relationship with tech support
over at HP techs and find what is the oldest BIOS update you can go to and
then work forward until you find the culprit.

I still believe that Intel and MS were stepping on each others fixes for the
problem, but thank goodness it can be resolved. Let us know how it progresses.

I've pretty much given up hope of getting Vista to run correctly on my
HP m9000t. Now, it not only freezes after sleep mode, but crashes
completely, and then has to go through a disk check during a hard
reboot, because it says there could be errors on the disk. If I could
get my money back for the computer I would, because its become nothing
but a daily hassle.

It seems that it gets worse the more I try to fix it.
