I have an Omnibook 6000, windows XP, which I am working on for a customer,
He was complaining about it freezing up after a while (10 mins - 1 hour or
so). Ran a simulated heavy load on the PC for over 3 hours never had a
problem, ran fine. I went to reinstall the OS (customer said it happened
during installations occasionally) had no issues there either, I even
reinstalled it 3 times complete format and repartition. So after having no
problems I went to update the OS and all of a sudden it froze up, and has
been freezing up ever since. I have gone through all of the activity logs and
disabled, uninstalled every service, driver for all of the warnings in them.
However the problem is still occurring. Working backwards I can only come up
with that the problem started after I ran Windows update for the first time.
My question is: has anyone else had this problem or heard of this
happening? Also could windows update cause this problem? I am in the process
of reinstalling the OS once more to find out if the laptop will work fine
until I try to update it.
The laptop has already had the: Motherboard, heat sink, CPU fan, RAM, &
Hard drive replaced. I originally thought it could be a CPU issue, but after
running the CPU at 100% usage for over 3 hours and not a single error I am
inclined to throw that out the window.
So if anyone has any suggestions please let me know, I am at my wits ends
trying to figure this one out. Thanks.
Laptop stats: Omnibook 6000, Pentium 3 700, 256Mb Ram, running windows XP
(designed for 2000 & 98).
