Computer hesitates

As others have stated, I have had no problems with this new computer with
Vista Premium. All the previous programs I used have installed and run with
no problems, a couple of them faster.

The only quirk I have had is that sometimes the computer will hesitate,
like when you are typing it will suddenly stop for a few seconds. Maybe it
is the wireless keyboard, haven't found the cause yet.

Don,

There is a lot of "maybes" that come to mind. Maybe it is still indexing
your files. Did you bring over a bazillion files like I did. It took most of
a week, running 24 hours, to complete the indexing. Geeze, but the search is
fast.

Charles,

Not a lot. I have had this computer about 2 months and have brought over
maybe 6 or 7 programs. You are right, the search functions are terrific.
Also, my Clarion language that I program in is much faster. As I type this,
the program will hesitate and I have to stop typing and wait a couple of
seconds for it to catch up, almost like running a program on entering data
across the internet sometimes.

I think the first thing I will try is to switch out this wireless keyboard
and plug in a standard keyboard and maybe kill Norton which came with the
machine.

It came with Norton preinstalled which I never liked and have always taken
it off previous machines which I intend to do on this one also - interesting
to note I just checked and there is no exit available, so I guess it has to
be stopped as a service by using Task Manager.

Hi,

Thought so, try removing it completely. Do not run the symclean tool though,
it has issues in Vista.

Thanks, it looks like it is going to be a real headache to get rid of. I
have always used AVG Pro but will have to see if it is Vista ready.

Try using Avast anti-virus; very good and compatible with Vista; ALL
versions, including 64 bit.

If it catches up with what you type it is not going to be the keyboard as
they generally don't buffer stuff.
The OS however does buffer stuff.

Norton needs a lot of RAM.
How much RAM do you have and what is the disk doing while you have to wait?

Good point - thanks. No, it doesn't catch up and fill in what was typed, it
just stops. A few seconds later you can start typing again. I have moved
the USB wireless component from the back of the machine and plugged it into
the front slot in case the signal was weak.

I have 2038 MB of RAM.

Getting ready to set a Restore Point and uninstall Norton. Not looking
forward to doing it in that on the last computer it was a real headache to
get rid of.

Other than this irritating item I have no problems with Vista Premium. Not
happy that some things have been removed such as fax and requires an
upgrade to Ultimate.
