Computer Keeps Rebooting

I successfully installed Vista but after the screen that talked about windows
being run for the first time, i get a black screen with the green scroll bar,
followed by a black screen with the version in the lower right, followed by
the computer rebooting. Upon reboot, it gives me options to start in safe
mode, normal, etc. All options have the same result--computer reboots.

I can't get back to XP, I can't re-install Vista b/c the only option wipes
out my files, and I can't reinstall XP b/c it can't detect a previous version.

Someone please help!!!
