What computer lock? Remember that we can't see your computer from here and
you need to explain what you mean. These links will help you with your next

Every so often, a window opens which says: Computer locked. Below it, i
says, change user. If I click on computer locked, I go back to where
was. I want to disable this feature. I'm the only user

OK, that makes more sense. When you hit the Windows Key + L (or some other
hotkey you may have set up), it is locking your machine. This is by design
since this is a feature most operating systems have to let you "lock" your
computer if you want to walk away from it for a few minutes and keep others
out.

Examine any hotkey software you have - it could be keyboard software that
came with your computer like if you have an HP or Logitech multimedia
keyboard, or it could be a macro program you installed like ShortKeys - and
make your changes there. If you don't think you have software like this,
then you'll need to pay attention to what you're doing the next time it
happens.

If you are using a screensaver, then uncheck the box "On resume, display
logon screen".

Great catch, Jane. Reading the original messages did not suggest the
screensaver to me.

Thanks for your replies, but, I have no idea what you are talking about
I know little or nothing about computers other than turning them on an
getting email. The computer is a Lenovo with Vista home premium. Jus
tell me which buttons to push and in what sequence and I'll do fine

Well, we *can't* just tell you what buttons to push because we don't know
exactly what you're doing. You could be hitting hotkeys like I suggested or
you could have your screensaver set to come on after a certain time and
then it asks for a password on resume. The problem is that we can't see you
and your computer from here and you haven't responded to either Jane's or
my suggestions by saying, "oh yes, that's what I'm doing" or "no, this
happens when I [insert details here]", etc.

For the screensaver idea, right-click on an empty area of the Desktop and
left-click on Personalize. You'll see the Screensavers tab, so click on it.
Look on that tab for a box that says something like "require password on
resume". If that box has a checkmark in it, take the checkmark out. Then go
to Control Panel>Power Options and look for a similar box that says
something like "require password when resuming from Sleep" and if the box
has a check in it, uncheck it.

If your "locking" was caused by the screensaver/power password requirement
then that will take care of it.

If your "locking" is caused by you hitting a combination of keys (like the
Windows Key + L), then it won't take care of it. As I said, pay attention
to what you're doing when it happens the next time OR have a knowledgeable
friend (someone really knowledgeable and not someone who just says he is)
come over and take a look at your machine and what you're doing.

I don't have a screensaver, and I have no idea what a hotkey is. I just
turn on the computer, go to my e-mail or search for things that I need.
If I stay on on site for a while, the computer suddenly goes black and
then a window opens saying computer locked with my name in a little box
and change user below. If I click on the box, I go back to what I was
watching.

Then go look at the Screensavers and Power tab like I suggested and check.
Otherwise, you're going to need that knowledgeable friend or professional
computer tech to come over and see what you're doing.

Sorry I was unable to help you but my mental powers don't include
long-distance viewing. Gracious knows I wish they did.
