Computer logs out immediately after logging in

I have a computer that unfortunately is 1000 mls away from where I am at
vthe moment, but when I go there at Christmas I need to get it up and
running as I earn my living on it.

As soon as I log in it starts tload settings then immediately logs out
again. I'm suspecting the only way is a windows (XP Home Edition) reinstall,
though the computer was given to me by a neighbour and I don't think I have
the original disks.

Is there another way to repair it?

Because I mainly use a Vista PC and I'm a creature of habit?

If you get 2000 miles from the PC, I'm sure it will fix itself.

If I recall correctly, and it's been a few years.....wasn't that behavior
caused by the 'BlazeFind' malware ?
