Computer running slow after power cut

Hi, I am running Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my computer at home. It
normally runs very well, having a core 2 duo processor, 2 GB of ram, a 512 MB
graphics card etc, 500 GB of hard drive space etc.

The other day the power went for just a split second but it was enough to
shut down the computer. At the time the only programs I can remember running
were iTunes and maybe Internet Explorer.

When I booted up the computer again, it was running very slow; taking
anywhere between 2 - 5 minutes to load programs after clicking on their icon.
I tried to reboot the computer and it has been shut down and restarted a few
times since and the problem has still not cleared. Any ideas as to cleanup
programs I can run or things I can do to get the computer back up to speed?

Thanks, stuart.

Running a 'chkdsk' would be a good idea, in case of corruption.

Right-click C: in computer > Properties > Tools > Check now (under error
checking)....
.... > Allow the schedule for the reboot > Reboot
