Computer shutting down?! What the heck!

Installed new windows xp update today. Now, after 20 minutes or so after
re-start, it is shutting down for no obvious reason. Couldn't even get it to
restart in safe mode, kept giving me shell screen filled with lines about
"hard drive partition". When I log into the other desktop, it seems to work
fine. Any ideas? Was it this install or is it a virus?

You can not get to normal or Safe Mode?
Reboot tapping F8 each second.
Select "Last known good configuration" at the menu.

hi,

i experienced that problem too. i cant do anything even restarting the
computer in safe mode or whatever menu on the screen. what you have to do is
repair the operating system.

> press enter
> choose repair
> select the hard drive to repair

note:
this repair looks like installing a brand new operating system, but it isnt.
but to be sure, prepare all the drivers of your hardware and software. in my
case, the repair process was successful. i havent lost any files but the only
problem in repairing the system is it slows down your pc when starting up.
dont worry, after you have logged in, it will go to its normal speed.
