Computer slow after SP2 update.

Dell Inspiron 1150 was working up to speed before SP2 update. After the
update it slowed to a crawl with the CPU showing 100% usage. The install was
from a downloaded CD 5.1 build 2600 XP SP2 RTM. I am confident with the CD
since I used it to update an elderly Gateway Desk top with no problems.

I followed the same procedures for each computer. Anti-virus scans, disk
clean ups, Defrags, external peripherals switched off, virus scanner
disabled, all before loading the SP2 CD.

I tried to recover the Inspiron by using System restore but the one restore
point created failed. So I uninstalled the SP2 update. This process took
over an hour to complete as the laptop was so very slow. When the update had
gone the Dell laptop was fully back to it's normal speed, in fact probably
faster as a result of the pre-update housekeeping.

Is there a known problem with Dell Inspirons and SP2 ? Or are there any
other pre-installation steps that I should have taken ?

Some help would be greatly appreciated. I feel I have aged at least a year
in the last four hours!

Richard.

Same exact problem here on my 1150. 100% cpu usage, slow as poop,
removing sp2 is fine. Grrr!
