Sometimes the information database of updates/patches gets out of whack.
Especially, if an update/patch was being downloaded/installed and a network
connection dropped or disconnected.
Normally, re-initializing the database causes Windows/Microsoft Update to
re-analyze you system and re-notify you CORRECTLY of updates/patches.
The correct procedure is on the Microsoft Web-Site and involves, removing
the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder (in order to wipe out the
database under DataStore - DataStore.edb).
You need to turn off Control Panel | Automatic Updates, and Stop the
Automatic Update and the BITS services, remove the folder (or rename until
your sure), START the services again, and then run Microsoft Update. Leave
Automatic Updates off, until Microsoft Update completes. Then reset Control
Panel | Automatic Updates to what you want.
Microsoft Update will rebuilt the SoftwareDistribution Folder tree, recreate
the DataStore.edb database file and proceed to ensure you system is
up-to-date.
However, in most cases, the Update History option on Microsoft Update will
have no information until updates/patches are downloaded/installed. You
will lose the information up to that point.
