Hy.
After a Complete update from Windows Update website, my computer is running
very slow.
i mention that i have installed all update including optional update.
And one more thing.
If i do a "Express" update, will my computer be safe ?

Thank you

I have the same problem, every time I accept the update it installs it and a
few minutes later the same request for the same update appears. I have tried
installing it from the WU logo and the same stll happens.

This must be an update fault of some sort that Microsoft need to fix, I have
never seen this before.

What is going on Microsoft?

Sometimes the information database of updates/patches gets out of whack.
Especially, if an update/patch was being downloaded/installed and a network
connection dropped or disconnected.

Normally, re-initializing the database causes Windows/Microsoft Update to
re-analyze you system and re-notify you CORRECTLY of updates/patches.

The correct procedure is on the Microsoft Web-Site and involves, removing
the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder (in order to wipe out the
database under DataStore - DataStore.edb).

You need to turn off Control Panel | Automatic Updates, and Stop the
Automatic Update and the BITS services, remove the folder (or rename until
your sure), START the services again, and then run Microsoft Update. Leave
Automatic Updates off, until Microsoft Update completes. Then reset Control
Panel | Automatic Updates to what you want.

Microsoft Update will rebuilt the SoftwareDistribution Folder tree, recreate
the DataStore.edb database file and proceed to ensure you system is
up-to-date.

However, in most cases, the Update History option on Microsoft Update will
have no information until updates/patches are downloaded/installed. You
will lose the information up to that point.

Let's get back on subject, I have older systems running Windows XP SP2, a
load of 13 updates came for both of them following the Genuine Advantage
update which really has to stop. Both systems have ground to a halt, I assume
because they have now become memory hogs not leaving space for actual work to
be done. Any ideas how to trim the fat on these Windows updates so we can get
back to work?

Thanks

I'm having the same problem as "Philadelphia." I received both Windows and
Office 2003 updates at the same time, so have uninstalled some of the Office
updates to see whether that was the cause of the slowdown, but it did not
help.

The slowdown is somewhat selective -- Explorer works best, but MS Word
barely starts and runs extremely slowly on both of my Windows XP SP2 systems
after the 13 upgrades on 7/13/06.

Unless Microsoft comes up with a patch soon to fix this mess, this may just
be enough to inspire a total switch to Mac!

I too have a slow system. I've got a two day old Dell laptop. I
un-installed all the Dell software and it was running great. I installed
McAfee Internet Security and still running great. I installed Office 2003
and guess what - still running great. Then I connect to the internet -
running great. Then i install Windows Update, download and install over 40
updates and boom, slow as hell.

Hope someone can come up with an answer soon!

I almost bought a new Sony laptop today, thinking that the problem might be
my older systems. Sure glad I didn't do that, since Darmelabi is having the
same problem with a 2 day old Dell!

By now, I've uninstalled all 13 updates, uninstalled SpySweeper, just in
case that was causing a conflict -- but the computer most severely affected
still takes 4 minutes even to get MS Word up and running. I'm about a day
away from visiting the Apple Store - never thought I'd say that, but this
latest debacle is just too much.

I traced the problem with my computers to a software conflict between version
5 of SpySweeper and the Windows and Office 2003 updates. Removing SpySweeper
5 and going back to version 4.5, along with deleting the Office 2003 updates
solved the problem. I will try adding the Office 2003 updates again one by
one to be sure I don't end up in molasses again. It's possible that the
security enhancements in the MS updates conflict with other Internet security
programs, too. No iMac for me yet!
