Computer Speed

The problem I am having is my new Dell computer is very slow loading internet
sites.

I have a Dell Dimension Duo Core Processor with Vista. I've checked with
my cable company and they said I have a strong signal. They felt something
else was slowing the computer down. Has anyone any ideas what I could try
that may speed it up somewhat?

Test your connection speed:

SpeakEasy Test Your Connection Speed
http://www.speakeasy.net/speedtest/

I just checked my Comcast speed and it was:
23647 kbps download and 1552 kbps upload.

If you do a Google search for:
Speed Up IE7
or
Tweak IE7
you may find some useful tips.

I should have mentioned that it is taking me about 20 seconds to load a page.

Well...it could be worse...did you check
your connection speed?

Do the search I suggested and look for
some IE7 Tweaks.

Do you have phishing filter activated, after disabling mine things sped up.
In addition, do you have anti-virus, firewall or any other internet secuirty
software. I used to have Norton Internet Security 2007 and once I removed it
I saw a significant increase in speed. I now use McAfee (free from Verizon)
and it works fine.

The following should help:

1. In IE under tools, internet options set all security and privacy settings
to default
2. In the advance tab find Phishing filter and disable it
3. If you have a 3rd party firewall, turn off the Windows firewall (look in
control panel)
4. Check you add-in list for anything that shouldn't be there or you don't
need, delete it or disable
5. Try this little trick, it's the only tip on IE I ever found that actually
works:
http://redchaos.wordpress.com/2007/0...rnet-explorer/
(I set my values to 50 and it works great, but your system maybe different,
so try different values)
6. If all else fail, download FireFox!
