computer won't shut-off

I just upgraded my computer from XP to vista home premium. I have two problems.
When i log on the screen flickers for about 10 minutes . When I want to shut
the compter down I get a dark screen and the system does not shut down.The
only way I can shut my computer down is by removing the battery and
un-pluging the computer.

Need help.

Called Microsoft - would not help unless i paid $59.
Gateway wasn't much help either. None of their suggestions worked.

Hi Haren
You say you have upgraded from XP to Vista - so the shut down problem is on
Vista and not XP. Is this correct.
If so then try the microsoft.public.windows.vista.general where many others
have had problems with upgrading.
I see you are using that slow, outdated web interface discussion group. Try
newsgroups for a better all round performance and contact method when
seeking help.
Its just like using emails - and don't forget to 'munge' your email or you
may attract unwanted spam.
