I have been getting the same updates every day for several months. The
computer says it has updated, but immediately tells me I have to update with
the same files. I don't receive any other updates and there must be dozens
of them. I have Windows XP Home Edition.

Total: 2 updates , 0 KB , 0 minutes *
(*Downloaded; ready to install)
High-priority updates
Microsoft Windows XP
Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB922770)
Download size: 0 KB , 0 minutes (Downloaded; ready to install)
A security issue has been identified that could allow an attacker to
compromise your Windows-based system running the Microsoft .NET Framework and
gain access to restricted data. You can help protect your computer by
installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may
have to restart your computer.

Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework, Version 2.0 (KB917283)

Here's something you may wish to consider:

Suggestion: Rename the temporary folder of Windows Update
===============================================
Please be assured the folder will be created again when you visit the
Windows Update site again.

1. Click Start, click Run, and type in "cmd" (without quotations) and
press Enter. Please run the following command in the opened window to
stop the Automatic Updates service.

Type in "net stop WuAuServ" (without quotations) and press Enter.

Note: Please ensure the Automatic Updates service is stopped before we
try to rename the folder.

2. Click Start, click Run, and type in "%windir%" (without quotations)
and press Enter.
3. In the opened folder, rename the folder SoftwareDistribution to SDold.
4. Click Start, click Run, and type in "cmd" (without quotations) and
press Enter. Please run the command "net start WuAuServ" in the opened
window to restart the Automatic Update

That's interesting, I had a similar problem and that fixed it for me. I
have however, done some research on the topic and it seems as it its not
too uncommon, here's a websites that tries to answer your question:

http://mcpmag.com/columns/article.asp?EditorialsID=1256

If that doesn't work...
Go to the Windows Update site. Do a custom update and look for the
update that is being repeated and UNCHECK that update and below that
CHECK “Don’t show this update again.”

and lastly, you may just want to turn off automatic updates, go to the
website update manually, and then turn it back on. If this doesn't work,
just turn off automatic updates indefinitely, though this is not the
optimal solution.

To turn Windows Update on/off:
Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl, and then press ENTER. There will
be a tab Automatic Updates. Click the "Turn off automatic updates."

regards,
yasin

How to troubleshoot Windows Update or Microsoft Update when you are repeatedly offered an
update
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=910339

Windows Update already installed

Also check to see if anything is missing or everything is okay by using
Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer.
