Computer won't wake up

Hello group,

I'm not actually sure if this is a vista problem or not, but maybe it is.
When my computer has been sleeping for several hours, it's reluctant to wake
up. Actually, the computer itself seems to be jumping through its hoops, but
the monitor remains dark. This is a new problem, just seems to have cropped
up from nowhere. If I wait five minutes or so, the screen does come on, but
it used to do so in about 10 seconds. I've made no changes that I can think
of, even reverted to an old restore point, to no avail. I'm using Vista home
premium, 32-bit.

Would appreciate any help. Thank you,
Chet

I seem to remember I had problems when I was running Vista on a Dell
Inspiron 530. If I left it on for a long time without use, it would go into
a sleep mode, from which I could not wake it. Activity with the mouse or
keyboard would have no effect. A quick press of the power button had no
effect either. The only way was to force a shutdown with the power button.

The only way I could fix this was to change the (power plan?) settings such
that the computer never entered sleep state.

May need to give it a second flick of the mouse after a few seconds, or
second click of the keyboard ie the first to wake the machine, and the
second to wake the monitor. See if that helps.

As with a number of things on Vista, you often need to demonstrate your
intentions more than once.
