Hi,

Until recently , my WSUS server was working flawlesly, But this month, for
almost all new updates, we have 150 "Computers with no status". Only one PC
shows up under "Computers needing this update". This change seems to be
correlated with the installation of WSUS 3.0 SP1. Can anyone help me
determine why the computers on the network suddenly have "no status"? Any
assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This problem was corrected by a patch:
Update for Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) 3 Service Pack 1 (KB954960)

Ahhh.. the importance of timely application of server patches. :-)

KB954960 was released in August, 2008.

Just a general note for all admins....

Troubleshooting systems that are not fully patched is an invitation to waste
time travelling down long lonely roads.

If you have a misbehaving system...

STEP 1: Apply the missing updates!

I'm happy that you were able to find the solution so quickly, Brad!

We would have eventually found the issue, but only at significant cost to
you running diagnostics, posting results, waiting for "analyses".

In fact, if you would be so kind... could you post an excerpt from one of
the clients that was failing detection prior to the installation of this
update?
I'm most interested in seeing how this issue manifested in the client logs
(which is where we would have started diagnosing this issue).
