Vista Home Premium.
I wish to make a hot button on my keyboard for sleep.

Anyone know the path to insert?

I also wonder if that is an executable file or a path. Any help will be
greatly appreciated.

Robert

Most keyboards have a sleep button. It's usually located to the left of the
Esc button.

?? I'll believe you if you say *some* keyboards have such a button,
but certainly not "most". None of mine do.

Hi, Bob.

Most? My current Microsoft Wireless Keyboard is the first one I've ever had
that had a "Sleep" key. And it is above the "-" key on the numeric keypad,
to the far right side of the keyboard.

There are just too many keyboard with widely varying designs to say that
"most" of them have any such feature.

Robert, what is the make and model of your keyboard? Does it already have a
Sleep key? To program a key for this, we probably will also need to know
the make and model of your computer, or motherboard and BIOS if you built it
yourself. With that information, perhaps one of the gurus here (not me!)
might be able to tell you how to do it.

My response is based on the fact that I have 4 keyboards including one that
I've had for 7 years and they all have sleep buttons.

You can always set your physical power button to be used for Sleep.
Control Panel>Power Options>Choose what the power buttons do

Other things you could do;

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/keybo...-3-keystrokes/

Put a shortcut on the desktop;

Right Click anywhere on the Desktop.

Then point to New, and then click on Shortcut.

Copy/paste the following phrase: rundll32.exe PowrProf.dll, SetSuspendState

Now click on the Next button to continue.

Type in a name for the shortcut (Sleep), and then click Finish.

Windows will place the shortcut on your Desktop for you.

Now you can click on this shortcut to put your system into Stand-by Mode.

You can right-click the shortcut, select "Properties". Go to the "Shortcut"
tab. Click "Change Icon". Browse to C:\Windows\System32\imageres.dll
click "imageres.dll" and select a new icon.

You're welcome, Robert.

Here's info on creating Lock, Shutdown and Restart shortcuts.

I use the Lock shortcut quite often.

OK, but it's a giant leap of faith to generalize from four to "most."

I personally have seven or eight keyboards here at the moment, and
I've seen and worked with hundreds (if not thousands) of others. I can
assure you that most keyboards do *not* have such a key.
