Configuring a UPS to pause/shutdown virtual machines?

I have a server running several Virtual PC 2007 machines. The server is
connected to a Belkin UPS, however the UPS software has no way of telling the
virtual machines to Pause (or shut down) when power is cut. I have been
searching for a way to do this via command line but haven't found what I want
just yet...anyone have any ideas how to do this?

You might be able to use the shutdown command if the VM's are Windows
XP and your UPS software can send net commands. (Windows 2000 can do
it if you download the shutdown command from Microsoft. Don't know
about Vista and above, they have the shutdown command, but I've never
tried it and UAC would probably get in the way.)

shutdown \\PCName /s

Your host login has to be the same as the VM's login for that to work,
otherwise you're going to have to do a net use with user ID and
password before you do the shutdown command.

Thanks for the tip, will use that for now as it is better than nothing.
Still has to be something that would work better. Would be interested to
hear any other methods.

If you're running servers a better solution would be Virtual Server.
It runs as a service and is aware of the VMs running, so your server
should wait until your VMs are in a saved state.

I have never used that product before because I never had a supported host OS
running (currently using Vista x64 which is not suggested for production use)
and because VirtualPC always got the job done. Will give it a look anyways.

Virtual Server really does give you more control and full scripting.

The next version of Virtual PC, which runs only on Windows 7 has
scripting just like Virtual Server...
