Dell have sold 'business' desktops from their website with either OS option
for the entire period. The major difference is that the business desktops
are not supplied in a neat little package along with screen, keyboard and
mouse. HP do the same. Small outlets always put on whatever the customer
wants.
Tiger Direct and others supply barebones boxes onto which the customer can
install whatever the customer wishes. There are and have been laptops also
offered with XP. They may not have been the models that some would have
chosen, but that does not alter the fact that XP has not really disappeared
at all. The difference is that it is now having to share space with Vista.
Major stores may well have baulked at requests for XP, but it would be for
the customer to make the choice of buying what was there or looking
elsewhere.
Your claims of Vista not working for anybody at all are as wild as your
claims that XP is not available. Perhaps you should take a trip out and
actually look for yourself instead of posting URLs to old and now incorrect
information, or making your own stuff up to fit the facts as you want others
to see them.
