On my new Ipaq bought yesterday everything was fine including syncing with
USB and IR - even after I upgraded to Active sync 3.7.1 . I tried to
install several programs at the same time (Adobe reader etc)- the programs
did not get installed since it said that the pocket PC should have been
connected during installation which it wasn't. However , now I can
connect(and even explore the PocketPc from the PC) but it just doesn't sync
and the message on the Ipaq4150 just refers to the last sync. I tried a)
system restore in case of a problematic other program b) the advice
regarding regsvr32 dll's c) soft resets d) removing network connection in
options and several reboots of the PC. Basically clicking on wcesmgr.exe
doesn't result in anything. I'm also worried about reinstalling Activesync
after removing it since there was a strong HP warning on the new hardware
saying i may never be able to sync if i connect with the PC prior to
installation of active sync (which i didn't do the first time and it worked
fine - but how will the subsequent removal and reinstallation be treated is
unknown to me). Please help as I have spent a bomb on the 4150 and already
stuck on day two of its ownership. Many thanks in advance.

Hi Ranjit,

This is the statement in the manual ---

================================================== =
CAUTION: For synchronization to work properly, install Microsoft
ActiveSync on your computer *before* you connect your iPAQ Pocket PC
to your computer.
================================================== =

It does not imply that you will never be able to sync if you connect with
the PC prior to installation of Activesync.

If the USB cradle is connected to the USB port prior to the installation of
Microsoft ActiveSync, a USB device will be detected and the Add New Hardware
Wizard will start. However, the correct USB drivers for Windows CE will not
be available for installation. The correct USB drivers can only be detected
after installing ActiveSync on your computer. Hence the caution is
provided.

There is no harm if you reinstall Activesync. Disconnect the PPC and then
proceed to uninstall. All you need to remember is to install Activesync
again before connecting your iPAQ. Coming to your problem, I would first
try to recreate the partnership before reinstalling Activesync.

Partnership is like a handshake. It will help the computer recognize the
device for synchronization purpose whenever it is connected subsequently.
Often you will come across situations where you will need to recreate the
partnership.

Delete and then recreate the partnership.

To delete the partnership ---

1. Disconnect the PPC from the computer.
2. On the computer, open Microsoft ActiveSync.
3. Click File -> Delete Partnerships to remove any previously
created partnerships.

Connect the PPC again and establish a new partnership. Hope this information
helps solve your problem.

Welcome to the Pocket PC club !!
