Connecting laptop to TV

I have a Gateway MT6452 laptop connected to a LG 32LC2D HDTV with SVGA
cable. Followed installation instructions and connection works for about five
seconds before screen begins flashing and TV disconnects displaying "invalid
signal". Software problem, hardware problem, or stupid human installer
problem?!

the hdtv may not be able to handle the signal coming from the laptop at its
present settings.
I know that my HDTV is maxed out at 1024x768 at 60mhz it will also work at
800x600.

Thanks Jim- The supported display resolution on the TV is 1024x768 60hz and
tv manual suggests setting the graphics card output to that. The flashing is
originating from the PC and I believe the TV is just disconnecting as a safety
feature, though their web site makes no reference to this. I have attempted
this installation with the Windows Media Center and get the same results.

So, Have you resolved your issue... because if not, I have a Hitach
HDTV and had the same problem and finally got it working. If do stil
need help, let me know, you may contact me by AIM shawna099 or replyin
to this message... I'm available 24-7 (for the most part, everyone
gotta sleep)..

No luck as yet, shawna.9! I've adjusted the resolutions, disconnected
everything
else from the TV and still get the same flashing on the PC and TV, which
causes
the TV to disconnect. Would be grateful to hear how you got through it!

Not a problem, I can definitly help... It would be easier to walk you
through it using aim, but if you dont feel comfortable with that I
totally understand, I'd be a little uneasy too... but very first... are
you using an s-video cable?

results.
I checked the SVGA cable, it's OK so it's PC or TV I guess. Thanks for

why I believe you get the flicker then no picture: The flicker is most
likely your computer refreshing the signal, mine does the exact same
thing yours is doing, except after the flicker it works fine.

_*FIRST_RESTORE_ALL_DEFAULT_SETTINGS_regarding_thi s_issue*_, make sure
you undo any settings you changed before proceeding

1) Locate your *"Windows Mobility Center"* and save a shortcut to the
program on your desktop (easier access). Now before you plug anything
into your computer open that window and find the *"Connect Display"*
option. (You may also want to have your *"Display Settings"* window
open, you might need to make a few changes.)
2) Now connect your SVGA cable and wait for the flicker, (does the
computer still show a display after the TV does not? *THIS IS VITAL!*)
3) Look at the *"Windows Mobility Center" *window and check the status,
if it says connected then you need to change your *"Display Settings".*
4) In the *"Display Settings"* window select the correct "Monitor" from
the drop down menu (since I can't really walk you through it, you will
have to figure out which one this is). Although Vista SHOULD
automatically choose the correct one for you.
5) After selecting the correct "Monitor" Click the ADVANCED SETTINGS
option and then the "MONITOR" tab, there should be a check box that says
*"hide modes this monitor cannot display"*
_MAKE_SURE_THIS_BOX_IS_CHECKED!_
6) Open *"Windows Mobility Center" *and select *CONNECT DISPLAY*--
there _should_ be a window that pops up with options on how to view both
displays; view dupicate monitor on both screens, view on external decice
only, or extend my display (this will show different parts of your
screen on each display). *SELECT THE DUPLICATE DISPLAY OPTION!!!*...
7)You should see a flicker and then your comp should be displayed on
your t.v. and your set to go!!!
