When I connect an iPod or a Western Digital external hard drive to my laptop,
using a USB cable, I have to wait for a window to open asking whether I want
to scan it or proceed without scanning. This can often take up to one minute
to come up on the screen.

As I am well aware of what I am doing, I would like to disable this Vista
feature. I have already disabled UAC, but not this one. There is no doubt a
simple answer, but I would appreciate it if someone could tell me how to
accomplish this.

If you do respond, please tell me the full path to reach the target, as I do
not consider myself to be an expert.

Scan for what ? Are you sure it's a Vista dialogue box and not some antivirus program.
What is the exact message?

It's probably Microsoft's Defenseless. Do yourself a favor and nuke
Vista and replace it with a real operating system like Linux Ubuntu,
free and can be downloaded from http://www.ubuntu.com/

He wants to disable UAC you IDIOT and doesn't want a new OS. You sure have reading
comprehension problems. Why would he get rid of a good OS and replace it with an INFERIOR OS
like that crippled Ubuntu?

Ubuntu has been free for many years yet is still on less than ONE PERCENT of the desktops out
there. There is a reason for that. Ubuntu SUCKS and doesn't run the popular software programs
out there.

What an ****WIT you are.

Go try to help those sorry sacks in the Ubuntu forum who believe they have a decent OS when in
reality they have ****.

Really? The OP wrote, and I quote: "I have already disabled UAC, but not
this one." Oops. Care to share any more of your lame mind reading, chump?

Because the opposite is true, of course!

Snip the usual insults, lies and FUD.

Um, being broke is not a requirement to use Ubuntu. I have lots of money
and could afford countless licenses of Vista and Win 7. Course, what I
do is make a rational, informed decision. You mistakenly think that if
something is free, it's useless and if you have to pay for it, it's the
best thing since sliced bread but your mind is so skewered you can't
even tie you shoes without help and this is so obvious that NOBODY heeds
*any* of your advice.

And the last time you checked my bank accounts was when? Care to share
which bank I use? Oh, you're just making things up as you go along
again, aren't you? That makes YOU the liar. Oops.

You wish and the reason you wish is your skewered idea that you are
somehow "better" than me if I'm broke.

Name me one person who followed your advice. For that matter, cite one
post where you actually gave some technical advice that worked (you can't).

Anything.

No need as you are totally incapable of giving any credible technical
advice. Also, as you are a nymshifter, searching Google would do no good
and you know it.

It's an antivirus program request to scan, and can be from "defender" or a
3d party program.

Thank you for replying. The box or small window is headed "Microsoft
Windows". Below that in the body of the window it says [for instance] "Do you
want to scan and fix WD Passport? Below that are two alternatives that one
may click. The first says "Scan and fix" the second says "continue without
scanning".

I would be interested in your comments.
