Connection and Update Problems

Hi! This is Linda with a question. I had a storm 3 days
ago and now I have to disconnect the computer phone line
in order to use my phone lines. Also I don`t know if I can
Update windows, due to low memory. Will I still get email
if I disconnect my computer from phone lines?--------------
