Connectivity issues after security updates

I am running Windows 2000 Professional and Outlook Express 6. I recently
went to Microsoft Update and downloaded all of the recommended updates. Now
I cannot access the internet or send/receive email. I have the list of 23
downloads that were installed. One was a security update for Outlook Express
6 Service Pack 1 and one was a security update for IE6 Service Pack 1. Can
anyone tell me what to fix? Thanks!

I also have had problems with my computer after I installed an update. It
was update KB918899. My computer will not work properly and I have no sounds
anymore. Certain programs will not even work.
