I just pulled my son's P111 computer out of the closet and connected it up
again: All was VERY clogged but I managed to restore virtually everything
with a/v, spybot, adaware, sfc etc and then it found a large number of
security updates to the OS (XP Home). Everything is updated with numerous
reboots during the update process, - it hadn't been used for a few months.

After rebooting, the computer wont connect to the internet at all: clicking
on the two monitors in the systray to show the WiFi connection shows it as
being connected, the signal strength is 80% and link quality is 60% which is
similar to what it was before but it wont open any web pages at all. Either
on IE, (which it updated numerous times with numerous reboots) or FireFox

I did an IPCONFIG and all shows normal (meaning it sees the service provider
and IP address of the router as normal. (It pings OK as well)

SP2 is installed, correct ? Open a command prompt from Start > Run
Type in

cmd
Click OK
At the CP type in

netsh winsock reset

Press Enter
Restart the system

OK, now ?
