Consistently failed to install KB912919 update

I have tried to install KB912919 update online and it failed with error code
0x80070570. I then found the installation file WindowsXP-KB912919-x86-ENU.exe
and tried to install it after downloading. The error message I got came at
the end of extraction process saying "The file or directory is corrupted and
unreadable.".
I would appreciate if anyone can advise me on how should I proceed. If
anyone knew what file or directory the error is referring to, please let me
know.

Are there any Symantec security products installed ?

If no Symantec security products are installed, try to temporarily
disable whichever installed AV there is, and do the download manually
again. Close all open programs and then attempt to install it.

0x80070570 - ERROR_FILE_CORRUPT

The file you have downloaded and tried to install is corrupt.
Delete the previous file and redown the update.

I, too, have problems with KB912919. Only with my PC, the printer USB is now
a "virtual" port??? Needless to say, the printer won't work.
When you uninstalled KB912919, did you get a warning box which said
"Microsoft .NET framework 1.1 hot fix(KB886908)" might be disabled? That
message caused me to back off of the uninstall. Should I just go ahead and
say OK and hope for the best?
I like the fact that you turned Norton off and resolved your problem.
I am running XP SP2 Media Center Edition operating system.

But completly different ones (printer driver) and you've started
