Apologies if you have already been here, but the below seem to be a good
read.

It would appear that 922582 was an optional for WINXP with SP2 and was
itself a cure for update problems(sounds familiar)
Quote-
Today we are announcing the availability of an update that does not address
a security vulnerability, but is a high priority for customers in keeping
their systems updated. The update addresses the following issue:
You may receive error code 0x80070002 when you try to update a computer
running on Microsoft Windows that has a minifilter-based application
installed. This error code could occur when updating using any of the
following Microsoft tools:
The rest is here -

AND
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/922582#appliesto
I hope I have not sent you off on a wild goose chase, but it seems you are
at the 'clutching straws' time :-)To me it would appear that if you have one
of these minifilter-based applic installed you might need this update - if
you don't, then you don't need it.I think I might go into WU Home and stick
it in the Hidden Folder for the moment - at least it wont keep worrying you.
KB922582 does appear to be a barsteward to download let alone install. But as
it appears to be straw clutching time how about
1. DL to a disc on another machine
2. Try installing off line and with all security disabled and nothing
running in the background.
I wish you the very best of good fortune in your quest for a solution.
I had hoped MowGreen might have joined this one - it had him pulling his
hair out, judging by the posts :-)
