contacts always show offline?

On my desk top my contacts always show as offline. When I downloaded Windows
Live onto my laptop everything works fine. Is there some setting or
something I need to change? I've tried uninstalling and starting over and
it's always the same. My old version worked fine before it's just been since
I downloaded the new version.

have the same issue. I have tried all the troubleshooting steps nothing
seems to help.
