Optionally in Windows 7
- in Windows Explorer open Users\<your windows logon name>\Contacts
- On the Toolbar click Export to a *.CSV file saving the file to a different folder in your profile's Documents(remember the
location)
- Open WLM , do not sign in. If prompted cancel, if auto-signed on the sign off(Tools/Options/Connection/Stop Signing In)
- Click Contacts(or press Control Shift C), then File/Import/Comma Separated Values/
- Browse to the saved file location and follow the prompts.
The above is necessary to import you contacts since WLM does not use that Contacts path. That folder is present in Win7 for
backward compatibility with Vista Windows Mail to ensure that if upgraded the Contacts are not lost. WLM stores its contacts in a
database, not viewable in Windows Explorer, and only viewable in Windows Live Mail with or without Live ID signon and if using a
Live ID to sign on to Windows Live also viewable/accessible in Windows Live Messenger and the web interface.
To echo Ron's input...it is not necessary to sign on to Windows Live to use Windows Live Mail. It is necessary to import your
contacts(especially if not migrated or found during WLM installation and setup).
