contacts not transfered when updated to new version

hi,

messenger was working fine and then i downloaded the most up to date
version. none of my contacts have transfered over and i can't add anyone.
i've logged in at work and all my contacts are there and i can chat fine. at
home on my laptop though they are not there.

i went to help and tried changed the setting as suggested but i still have
the same problem, can someone help me?

Are you checked in with the same Live ID at both places?

My mother occasionally signs in with different accounts and different places
and is confused to see different contact lists.
