Contacts not working properly

I have added several contacts to windows live messenger and they are not
appearing in any form in my contacts list, other than with e-mails. They are
not prompting the other party to add me as a contact either. The strange part
is, that when they add me i dont get the option to add them either. Yet if i
sign into webmessenger i can approve all the adds and i can talk to the
contacts.

Does anyone have any ideas what the solution to this might be? I have tried
uninstalling and re-installing windows live messenger to no success.

Greetings Nik,

To correct this problem, shut down Messenger entirely by right-clicking on its icon in the
notification area and choosing Exit, then download and run this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...lmpolicies.reg

Then try signing in again. It make take 40-50 seconds after signing in before you see any
change.

thank you very much for your help. Just out of interest what is the cause of
the problem in the first place?

Hi Nik,

Messenger maintains a cache of contacts which breaks occasionally. All this is does is force
it to refresh the contacts from the server, thereby fixing the problem.
