I have recently updated messenger to 2009 and found that the contacts I had
that used a Yahoo email account for Live Messenger always appear offline and
do not recieve my messages when I attempt to message them offline. I do
however recieve a message if they message me which says they are not on my
contact list. I have searched this issue and found that it is not an isolated
case; that many other people are having the same problem.

Greetings Twel,

As a test, delete them off your contact list and have them remove you off theirs. Then press
the Alt key on the keyboard, choose the Tools menu, then Options, and then choose the Privacy
category on the side of the options screen.

Finally, find your contact on either the Allow or Block list, right-click them and choose
Delete. If the Delete option isn't available, then they haven't removed you off their main
contact list yet (although I suspect this won't be a problem). If they aren't there, that's
fine too.

Now go back to the main Messenger window and add the contact to your contact list again.

Jonathan,

Has Microsoft confirmed this to be a defect with Windows Live Messenger
2009? I've seen several posts on various community sites about this issue but
no reasonable solutions have been posted. To me, deleting and re-entering
your contacts to resolve the problem creates an inconvience for me (and
probably other users ) since I have a lot of contacts with custom
information.

To me this appears to be a software defect and should be addressed with a
patch.

In my case. the problem occured after upgraded from Windows Messenger 8.0 to
Windows Live Messenger 2009.

Thoughts?

Charles
