Continuing failure installing Update for Windows Vista (KB938371)

I have tried several times to install the folloing update without sucsess.
Have reviewed help and technical info to no avail. What do I do next to be
sucsessful

Update type: Important

Install this update to enable future updates to install successfully on all
editions of Windows Vista. This update may be required before selected future
updates can be installed. After you install this item, you may have to
restart your computer. Once you have installed this item, it cannot be
removed.

Have you tried downloading the standalone version?

First check if you have KB937287 installed on your computer. If not go
to
'Download details: Update for Windows Vista (KB938371)'
(http://tinyurl.com/2e9vle)

There you will find both standalone versions of KB937287 and KB938371
on the same page, download both.
Before installing disconnect from internet, close anti-virus and
windows firewall programs.
Install KB937287 (no reboot required) then install KB738371 reboot and
it should install without multi-booting or errors.

I have put this procedure also on other forums and have many
acknowledgements of success.
