Continuing problems with video call

I downloaded the latest version 8.5 and continue to have problems with video
calls and vista. I have had the problems since moving to Vista.

I am running vista home basic on a new machine I just purchased from Dell.
I have a Microsoft VX-3000 Life Cam and downloaded the "vista" drivers from
the MS site.

When I start a video call, I get video, but no sound, and the person I am
talking to does not hear me either. The sliders for microphone and speakers
that appear next to the video feed are grayed out.

When I set up and test the Life Cam, I have no problem, I am able to record
and the microphone is working properly. In fact, I can take this Life Cam
and put it on my XP machine and all works fine with the same 8.5 software.

I was using a work around - making an audio call, then inviting the other
person to view my webcam and they asked me to view theirs. however, last
night, the audio cut in and out so much that it was unusable.

Help - I am ready to move back to XP, but I really wanted to give Vista a
try. BTW, my provider is Verizon FIOS for both the XP and Vista machine and
when I set up Life Cam on the XP machine it is perfect!

I had the same trouble as you . I am running a E-zonics camera (on the box
it said CERTIFIED FOR WINDOWS VISTA)and went to there site and got drivers
for there cam and it went to working.
Not as good as XP ,but it works.
Taks all my ram and can not open mail when talking live video.

OH yes there is one thing I did . Dont know if it took care of my trounbe=
I pull the propertys an the messenger and put a check mark in ===RUN
as WINDOWS XP!!Also open C: drive and found 2 files with .EXE and did the
same to them!!

Loyd - did running as XP solve your problem?

Jonathan: I have not tried Skype - I work IT at a college where I have seen
SKYPE's peer to peer property bring our network to its knees. I'm leary of
installing it on any computer I own.

Is there another product that would give me this capability?

Hi Edie,

There are some GPOs that Skype has to avoid the clients become peer to peer drones
(supernodes as they call them).

Regardless, there's lots of other apps you could try, like Yahoo Messenger, Google Talk,
Gizmo Project etc.

I also have a new Dell laptop w/Vista. When I first started using Windows
Live, I could hear and talk. The volume was low, but we could still hear
each other. I had problems with WinTV software and had to reinstall my
software with Dell's assistance. Now, when I go to use Video Call, I get a
message the I don't have a sound card or my sound card is not selected. My
sound is working with everything else and I checked in the Control Panel and
it looked like everything was O.K. Do you think it is Windows Live and
Windows Vista that is the problem???
