This may be a newbie question but my control panel and all functions inside
it go missing or cannot be accessed. I know there are a lot of different
ways to gain access to control panel functions but it seems to be getting
harder to find. At this point Start/Control Panel draws the window and
disappears to nothing. Why is this? are others having this trouble, have I
done something wrong? Then when I start to freak (computer is very new)
Start/Control Panel will be fully functional. Restarting is not the answer
though and freaking is a hard on the nerves. Sometimes I can get in via
Computer and the tree e.g.. Computer/a/c/ d/network/control panel/recycle
bin that way mostly works but not always. Please help.....M

Do a thorough check for malware, following all of the steps at one of these
Web pages.
Help with malware:
All MS-MVP Sites.

Unexplained computer behavior may be caused by deceptive software.

So How Did I Get Infected Anyway?
For quite a few people it's by installing programs like Messenger Plus,
whose ads for malware don't identify the malware as such and try to convince
you that you owe it to the author. See also:

Don't ever do a "default" install of anything. Always choose Custom and see
what else is being carried along. Don't install any extras you're not sure
of.

Make sure "Software Licensing" is started in "Services".

If that alone doesn't do it, check to see if "SL UI Notification"
is started.

Copy/paste "services.msc" into Start Orb/Menu's search bar,
press enter- to quickly get to Administrative Tools>Services.

Also- do have Nero installed?
