Control panel applet & chkdisk log

Hi

The 'performance information and tools' applet in my control panel does not
seem to work properly anymore. I can't see my various performance scores
anymore, and there is no link to allow me to update the score.

I'm also not sure if chkdisk stores information to a log after ir runs. Can
anyone help with these 2 queries.

For your 2nd, after running chkdsk, open up Event Viewer | Applications. You
should see an event with source Winlogon. Open that event and the result of
the chkdsk should be there.

Thanks Jabez I'm not sure I actually understand how to get to this log by
following your instructions. Could you be a bit clearer as I'm not that good
with windows vista.

Sorry but do you actually understand my first problem as no one else has
replied. Is it a problem that is well known.

Hi,

Click start, type "event viewer" and hit <enter> to open the log. The rest
should be readily apparent.

Thanks for the help Rick. I've got into the evnt viewer, but I'm afraid I
don't know how to navigate to the chkdisk log (if that is what it's called)

Hi,

After opening the Event Viewer, click on/expand "Applications and Services"
in the left column, then in turn on Microsoft/Windows/WinLogon and you will
see two sections for diagnostic and operational logs. Check these for the
chkdsk results.

Thanks Rick. I navigated as you said but didn't see any logs. Thanks all the
same. Are you able to help with the first part of my question? This was to do
with the control panel applet.

Hi,

Sorry, but no. I would look to interference from third party software that
loads and runs in the background. Certain utilities, like the yahoo toolbar
and google desktop have been shown to cause some wierd issues.
