Conversation Gets Lost

I've been having conversations with a friend for a while and frequently
during the conversation: I'd speak... and she'd reply... But her reply would
never show up on my screen, so after waiting for her reply and telling her
I'm waiting for her to say something. She always says she has responded and
can copy/paste what she said back in to the conversation to prove that she'd
said it but I hadn't recieved it.

It always happens randomly: sometimes once every 10 minutes, once an hour,
or sometimes never at all.

This has happened numerous times. Some times for as much as 20 minutes at a
time... I can say anything to her and it'll get through, but during this time
she can't get one of her messages to show on my screen.

Greetings Doug,

I've seen this before and although I don't have a specific solution, I'm curious about a few
things. Are either of you using an ISP which throttles (aka slows down) your traffic rather
extremely? For instance, some ISPs around the world will slow you down to narrowband speeds
when you reach a certain monthly quota.

Thanks for the response so soon....

To either of our knowledge's, neither of us are using an ISP which throttles
traffic...

I don't think it could be a case of reaching a quota, because this has
happened from the first time we've spoken... It's not like this started
happening over time.. It has always happened, and I just take it with a grain
of salt each time it happens..

Hi y'all!

What the fellow is talking about is what has occurred to me several times.
To support what the guys said, it does not have to do with a rather slow
internet conection for I work at an ISP, which server bradband to both
residential and corporate customers. However, the way i have found out about
the problem is by checkin the OIM's bubble and discover there were pieces of
convo that never reached my window. Perhaps what i said is just a variation
of the "convo gets lost" type of thing. QUESTION HERE: are convo's based on
TCP? if so, the those little packet would never be lost since there is re-tx.
If not, then i should asumme convo's somehow are switched to UDP.

Regards to y'all
