Is there any good way to convert VOB files to WMV? I need to do so and
can't figure out how. I tried a few converters but they don't seem to do
the job. I have several VOB files on a DVD I received. All seem to show
the same thing when opened with Windows Media Player but they are vastlyk
different sizes. I tried copying one to a DVD but got an error message
about "compilation type."

First, you need to know that VOB files are just MPG files split on 1 GB
boundaries (if they are large enough, of course).

So if they are large, just copy with append and put them all together
into one MPG file. Remember the old DOS COPY /B command. It does the
trick.

Then you might have more luck finding a converter for MPG to WMV.

If you have trouble copying them onto HD, get DVD43. Free and very
nice.

I have always used NERO which completes the job without fuss. I presume these
files are under a folder titles VIDEO_TS or something similar. Nero will
require that folder and will convert to a number of file types.
