HOW?! I posted in the Expressions folder, but nobody has replied. Someone
here said they had used Microsoft Encoder to convert their VOB files to an
mpeg or a file I can use the film editing system that comes with Vista. The
encoder is now Microsoft Experssions Encoder, and for the life of me, I can't
figure this out. HELP?!?!

What I use to convert my .vob files is Windows Media Encoder. It is
available for download at this URL:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/win...r/default.mspx

I am not familiar with the Expressions Encoder.

Tried to download it, but I got a red X message that the installation program
isn't supported by the processor I have. The computer's a Gateway with an
Intel Pentium processor. The computer's new, and came with Windows Vista Home
Premium.

I did find a similar reference to an error message that can come up as “This
installation package is not supported by this processor type.” Could that
be the error message you saw with the Red X? If so, it is possible that you
downloaded an incorrect version of Windows Media Encoder. You will see on
the web site that there are 32 bit versions and 64 bit versions. If you
have a 32 bit VHP, you would need to download the 32 bit version of WME (and
vice versa for the 64 bit); if you download the wrong version of WME, you
could get that particular error. My Vista Home Premium is the 32 bit
version and that is the version of WME that I downloaded. Beyond that, my
own knowledge runs out. Hope this helps.

Ok. I downloaded the 32 bit Encoder. When I try to convert the file, Encoder
keeps shutting down and restarting. I am really at my wit's end...

Sorry you are having so many issues with all this. I don't know why WME
shuts down on you. May I suggest: there is a newsgroup devoted
specifically to WME. It is:

microsoft.public.windowsmedia.encoder

You could try posting your WME shutdown question there to see if someone
with more intimate knowledge can help. Best wishes....
