I did find a similar reference to an error message that can come up as “This
installation package is not supported by this processor type.” Could that
be the error message you saw with the Red X? If so, it is possible that you
downloaded an incorrect version of Windows Media Encoder. You will see on
the web site that there are 32 bit versions and 64 bit versions. If you
have a 32 bit VHP, you would need to download the 32 bit version of WME (and
vice versa for the 64 bit); if you download the wrong version of WME, you
could get that particular error. My Vista Home Premium is the 32 bit
version and that is the version of WME that I downloaded. Beyond that, my
own knowledge runs out. Hope this helps.
