I have always answered ng's using reply all. With this new Vista I see it
is sending it to the poster too. I have found it doing that with reply
group also. I would guess, haven't tried it yet that just reply would
definitely sent to the poster only. Suggestions?

I don't think it has anything to do with Vista. I use Windows Live Mail
under 64 bit Vista Ultimate. When I reply group it posts the response to the
post I selected. I don't have a reply all. You should state what newsreader
you're using.

If you mean by OE Outlook Express, you don't have that in Vista you will
have either Windows Mail or if you've downloaded and installed it Windows
Live Mail.
I just answered this via the Reply group button.

Yes, I know to look there, but some others don't. As a courtesy, the OP
should provide that.

Hi, Glenn.

In OE, WM and WLM, there are 3 Reply options (they are spelled out most
clearly in WLM's Actions menu):

1. Reply to Sender - Almost always the wrong response in newsgroups
because it sends an EMAIL, NOT a newsgroup post, to the Sender - who
probably doesn't want email. :>(

2. Reply to All - Almost always the wrong response in newsgroups because
it sends BOTH an email to the Sender AND a post to the newsgroup. :<(

3. Reply to Group - Almost always the RIGHT response because it posts a
Reply to the thread in the newsgroup. ;<)

For me, I've customized my Toolbar to show the "Reply group" button and made
sure the other two buttons do not appear on the Toolbar. (Note that the
Toolbar in News is not the same as in Mail, where Reply to group is not
available, of course.)

When I do receive an email from a newsgroup reader, I usually ignore it. If
I respond, I usually start with this boilerplate:

Netiquette frowns on email responses to newsgroup posts unless email is
specifically invited or the subject veers from the topic of the newsgroup.
In a newsgroup, many readers may benefit; in email, only the two parties can
share. In a newsgroup, if I'm busy or out of town or just don't know the
answer, someone else can respond. If my response in a newsgroup is wrong or
incomplete, someone else can correct or complete it. If I give you bad
advice in email, you're just stuck with it. :>(

I never noticed before that mail and news toolbars were different and I've
been on ng's since they started. BTW, I just looked and both groul and all
are avaiable on my news toolb. I'm using WM.
